Histology and Histochemistry of Placenta in Pregnancies Complicated by Preeclampsia

چکیده

Intrauterine growth of fetus mainly depends on adequate function of placenta. Placenta is a fetal organ. It shares same stress and strain to which the fetus is exposed. Thus any disease which affects the mother has a great impact on placenta. Anatomical structure of placenta greatly influences its function. Thus study of placental morphology is considered essential. 136 Pregnancy complications like preeclampsia are reflected on placenta both macroscopically and microscopically. The fetus depends on placenta for normal development, thus pathological changes in placenta result in reduced blood flow across placenta and uteroplacental insufficiency. 138,142

A Lipidomic Analysis of Placenta in Preeclampsia: Evidence for Lipid Storage

In preeclampsia, maternal insulin resistance leads to defective expansion of adipocytes, enhanced adipocyte lipolysis, up-regulation of very low density lipoprotein synthesis, maternal hypertriglyceridaemia and the potential for ectopic fat storage. Our aim was to quantitate and compare the total amount and type of lipid in placenta from pregnancies complicated with preeclampsia and healthy pre...

Histology and Histochemistry of Placenta in Pregnancies Complicated by Preeclampsia

The intrauterine existence of fetus solely depends on one organ “The Placenta”. Placenta is a vital organ playing central role in pregnancy. It maintains pregnancy and promotes normal fetal development and serves as a major organ for transfer of essential elements between mother and fetus. 1 It has a significant role in health of the fetus because it is the sole source of nutrients for the fetu...

In preeclampsia, the placenta grows slowly along its minor axis.

A small placental surface area at birth is associated with an increased risk of hypertension in the offspring in later life. Preeclampsia is associated with impaired implantation and with increased blood pressure in the offspring. We hypothesized that preeclampsia would be associated with a small placental surface area. We studied placental size in 6410 deliveries at the Helsinki University Cen...

Pathological changes in placentas from pregnancies with preeclampsia and eclampsia with emphasis on persistence of endovascular trophoblastic plugs.

AIM To assess the frequency and types of histopathological changes in placentas from pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia/eclampsia. METHODS Placentas routinely sent for pathological examination (n=1,689) were studied microscopically and compared to findings of 50 placentas from uncomplicated pregnancies. RESULTS Out of 1,689 placentas from singleton pregnancies, 279 (16.5%) were from pr...

Cell Free Expression of hif1α and p21 in Maternal Peripheral Blood as a Marker for Preeclampsia and Fetal Growth Restriction

Preeclampsia, a severe unpredictable complication of pregnancy, occurs in 6% of pregnancies, usually in the second or third trimester. The specific etiology of preeclampsia remains unclear, although the pathophysiological hallmark of this condition appears to be an inadequate blood supply to the placenta. As a result of the impaired placental blood flow, intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) a...
